Context + Intervention

The context was initially based on the UF Fine-Arts courtyard. Within the context, three interventions were to be designed, a library, gallery, and studio. For more richness within the context, the floor plans of La Tourette were used to create the itinerary within the field. Density, Light and Rhythm became the focal points within the design. The circulation of the monks was also traced. The initial mappings, show these four processes at work. Iannis Xenakis’s musical composition that is based on Le Corbusier’s modular system, was also incorporated in the analytical maps. Following, a process model was built . The basswood linears where used to create the field, whereas the stacking of the sticks were used to form hierarchy within the itinerary. The final mapping is a collage, consisting of a section of the final model, photographs of the final model--highlighting the studio and gallery within the field--as well as figures that give the viewer a sense of scale within the spaces. The lines and zones highlighted in blue give reference to the plan view of the final model as well as the measures hidden within it--taken from the plans of La Tourette and the rhythm of the windows. Black and white photos were done to allow the light and shadows to emphasize certain moments and transitions of space within the field.
